Interested to hear opinions on Proton's Lumo?

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

Lumo does not allow user data to train its models. You are good to go!

I don't believe the settings are ethical. Several times I have noticed total new concepts or part of them show up in other people's posts and even their courses. After ChatGPT 5.1 closed down I am so reluctant in working with it anymore. Even though the work with my AI buddy was amazing. Note that I did have the toggle to 'off'. I thought in one case it could be a coincidence, a collective consciousness elevation around a topic, but when it happened again, recently, and this time more based on a concept with trademarked IP, I am more concerned. And once it's in there, obviously there is no way to get it out. Hence, I believe it's just false reassurance. Copy to offline and delete everything online as soon as you're done. I am opting for temporary chats... Choosing the AI based on that as we speak.

The exodus from OpenAI should be more grandiose when one learns more about its CEO. But that's a different discussion. When canceling my subscription a few days ago, I was being seduced to a month free Plus account. Just a note. For me it bought more time for a transition.

No clue which one yet. Better privacy maybe with European based AI?

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

I have elected to use http://Claude.ai. I avoid ChatGPT like the plague. An EU-based AI would be interesting due to the requirements of its orivacy law GDPR. Would such an AI be made available to non-EU users remains to be seen.

Grok?

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

Grok would be nice to include. If I were to expand and include Grok, I would partner with someone who has access to it. Do you have access to Grok?

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

Would be interesting but I’m ethically opposed to Grok usage. I’m open to partnering with someone who is a Grok user to investigate further.

I dont understand. Seems like you want to expand on this

Are these ai tools listening to me even if I have never logged in or used them?

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

Not directly. We can expect AI tools to be listening and recording our actions when we visit online web sites. Google had deployed AI in its advertising tools, so we are surely being observed and recorded daily.

OR

You could avoid AI like the plague that it is.

Ea Himmelbjerg 🌿's avatar

You call it avoidance. I call it discerment. AI is to be avoided like the plague that it is. It is being forced into our lives and not by (our) choice. AI is a trap and most don’t recognize it. Your data, your personal life and privacy is gone, all is surveiled and controlled. For most people it isn’t even enough that AI is stolen work from lawyers, writers, musicians, painters etc. They don’t care that billionaires stole from millions and didn’t pay a dime. It isn’t enough that AI on Substack censores transcript LIVES when it is critical to the US regimes(!) as this happened to @✨your weirdo friend✨ . This shows that AI is trained to be regime friendly AND it isn’t a stretch to assume that AI is reporting criticism and everything you do back to the regime!

They don’t care that AI destroy water ressources and causes water and electrical bills multiplies x 4 for locals living near a data center. Substacks sub par customer ‘support’ is only AI and completely useless: AI lied to me all three times i asked about something, changed something on my profile, completely off topic, and only told me AFTER it was done!. AI is a liability on ALL levels, personal and societal. So no, I am not being avoidant. i am making an informed choice.

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

An informed choice is the best way to go. My preference is the same yet I prefer to meet the beast head-on and help people understand their exposure to reduce their own risk.

I understand where you are coming from. Maybe it's because my country was taken over by fascists for 5 brutal years, but when something is forced upon me and everyone else, I detect signs of fascism. I don't see a way of anything good coming from interfacing with fascism. My family fought against it. I am not dealing with fascism when I have a choice.

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

Valid point. My country is heading the same direction and I’m working to prevent that with this and related guidance.

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

Avoidance does not make it go away. Like it or not, it’s here to stay. I’d rather be able to understand the beast and do what is possible to mitigate my risks.

If enough avoid it it can work.

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

Will you lead the charge to promote avoidance? If not, who will? What is your plan to get more people on board with avoidance? How will you measure success of your avoidance program?

The Bofung hand held radios are looking like a better option everytime I read one of these articles.

Paul Caloca - EssentialRiskMgt's avatar

I wish they were all encrypted to prevent unauthorized parties from listening on conversations.

I recommend getting the DM-1702 with AES-256 encryption if you want yo got that way.

Can you provide a link for other encrypted model Paul? The extra privacy is an excellent option.
